Last month The Bahamas had it’s annual Carnival. This year however marked the first year that the event was entirely funded and operated by the private sector. This resulted in a few differences such as the elimination of the word “Junkanoo” in the title and the elimination of an opening ceremony.
The controversy Carnival creates continued however. Discussions about the misrepresentation of Bahamian culture, body shaming, religion and spirituality saturated social media pages and the local talk shows.
Nonetheless the revelling continued and I was there for it.
